Organizations & Clubs

AAJA:

AAJA has advocated on behalf of AAPIs in the newsroom on the front lines for stronger representation and more inclusion.

The Society of Professional Journalists at Columbia University:

-  Speaker Director Assistant (Sept 2023 - August 2024)

The Society of Professional Journalists is the de facto student governing body of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. I collected students' wishes of guest speakers coming to school and actively tried to connect these speakers, experts, and even world leaders to try to make panels happen.

Her Campus:

News Writer and Graphic Designer (Jan - June 2022)

Her Campus UCSB, a branch of HerCampus.com, is an online magazine for the college women of UCSB with features on Campus News, Events, Profiles, Polls, and even Campus Cuties! Her Campus UCSB is a place for the women of UCSB to get personalized information about what's happening on their campus!

KCSB-FM:

Newscaster and Marketing Director (Jan - June 2022)

KCSB-FM (91.9 FM) is a non-commercial, educational radio station located on the UC Santa Barbara campus. I learned the fundamentals of radio broadcasting, both technically and in terms of broadcast content, and explored more advanced aspects of broadcasting and the audio medium. Also, as the publicity ambassador, I do tabling, spread posters, and hold promotion events to make the community know more about KCSB and participate in our events.

Daily Nexus:

- News Writer (Jan - June 2022)

Daily Nexus is a UC Santa Barbara's independent, student-run newspaper, covering events on campus and in the surrounding community. I learned professional writing skills for a newspaper by working in both the news team and the opinion articles team. I knew what are newsworthy topics, practiced the skill of organizing information from different perspectives, and edited articles in news writing conventions (the AP style).

UCSB Chinese Student Association (UCSB CSA):

- Communication and Events Director (May 2020 - May 2021)

UCSB CSA is a non-profit student organization aiming to build a supportive and responsive community for Chinese students at UCSB. It brings entertaining activities and cultural experiences while introducing Chinese culture to all Gauchos from all over the world. As the event & communication team manager, I led my team members to hold various events (such as the Lantern Festival celebration, a singing competition, and a freshman orientation meeting) and engaged hundreds of students per event, which greatly enhanced Chinese cultural competency and students' life experience at UCSB.

UCSB Chokis:

- Dancer (Sept 2019 - June 2022)

UCSB Chokis is a dance club under the Chinese Students & Scholars Association (UCSB CSSA) and is populated by Chinese students. As a member of this club, I gave lots of dance performances as many student organizations would invite us to dance when they hold events. In the quarter of Winter 2020, we wore Qibao (traditional Chinese women's dress) and did a traditional Chinese dance show to celebrate the Lunar New Year and our Chinese culture in the community.
